Judiciary sentences hand amputation for prisoner accused of robbery. This is at least the fifth such court ruling in 2017 alone. Branch 8 of Tehran Province criminal court has sentenced an inmate to see his hand amputated on robbery charges, according to the Human Rights in Iran website. Another inmate by the name of Hamid Moini was executed in Adel Abad Prison of Shiraz on Tuesday. This very inmate had seen his hand amputated just 10 days ago. Back in February judges of branch 5 of Tehran Province criminal court sentenced two brothers and a third individual to “hand amputation, all belongings confiscated and prison time”, according to news websites. Two weeks later branch 23 of Iran’s supreme court upheld a hand amputation ruling issued by branch 8 of Tehran Province criminal court for an individual charged with robbery. This ruling is one the verge of being implemented. In recent years the ruling of finger amputations have been implemented for a number of thieves in numerous cities across the country, including Yazd, Bushehr, Mashhad and Ilam. Human rights supporters described such punishments, including stoning, as ruthless and brutal. Crime experts believe such punishments will only provoke further violence in society. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights specifically bans inhumane and derogatory punishments. However, the Iranian regime has institutionalized inhumane punishments into its punishment laws (Article 278 of the Islamic Penal Code). - See more at: http://iranprobe.com/explore/news/iran-judiciary-orders-another-hand-amputated.html#sthash.7lfPoDG1.dpuf
